  • AllTrails launches Peak at 80 dollars a year, adding AI route creation and advanced trail insights for hikers.
  • Peak features real-time trail crowd data, enhanced weather alerts, and plant ID via smartphone for explorers.
  • Upgrades coming to free and Plus plans; new Points of Interest map will benefit all AllTrails users soon.

AllTrails is introducing Peak, its new premium membership designed for outdoor adventurers seeking the latest in trail technology. Priced at 80 dollars annually, Peak brings advanced features like AI route creation, up-to-date trail conditions, heatmap insights for crowded or quiet paths, and a plant identification tool through your smartphone camera.

The rollout begins with select users in the coming weeks and will be accessible worldwide by June, while early access signups are available through the AllTrails website. With a surge of new users during the pandemic and a significant funding round in 2021, AllTrails is building on a robust foundation, even as competition heats up with Apple stepping into the trail mapping space.

Enhanced Tools for Trail Lovers

Peak’s most notable innovation is its intelligent routing, where users can craft their perfect hike by customizing existing trails or starting anew. Artificial intelligence tweaks these choices for distance, elevation, or scenic appeal, catering to a variety of outdoor preferences.

In-app weather forecasting now goes beyond temperature and precipitation, adding factors like snow depth and environmental alerts on air quality or mosquito activity. Future updates promise even deeper insights, such as surface condition reports highlighting pavement, gravel, or muddy stretches.

Crowd level heatmaps use real-time data from millions of users to help hikers judge when trails will be busy or tranquil, similar to traffic predictions seen in navigation apps. For solo explorers or those who prefer lively paths, this feature adds another layer of safety and enjoyment.

Outdoor Lens, arriving this summer for Peak members, allows quick identification of flora by snapping a photo and cataloging plants, with planned expansions to this feature on the horizon. The company aims to continually enrich the member experience as outdoor interests evolve.

Beyond Peak, AllTrails is also enhancing its Base and Plus plans. The free Base tier maintains essentials like community-driven reviews and basic maps, while Plus gives adventurers offline maps, wrong-turn notifications, trail previews in 3D, and live activity sharing.

All users, regardless of membership, will soon benefit from the Points of Interest function, which includes over half a million mapped scenic stops and amenities. Plus members will additionally enjoy Offline Area, offering tailored downloaded maps and richer detail for unconnected excursions.

With more than 80 million users worldwide, AllTrails’ expanded features aim to retain a devoted community and satisfy newcomers drawn outdoors by the latest technology. The launch of Peak marks a significant step in the company’s mission to innovate for active explorers everywhere.
