Amazon has introduced Nova Premier, which the company touts as its most advanced addition yet to the Nova artificial intelligence family. This versatile model is now accessible within Amazon Bedrock, the company’s main platform for AI model development.

Nova Premier is engineered to process text, images, and videos but does not handle audio inputs at this time. According to Amazon, the model shines when tackling complex assignments that demand a strong grasp of context and precise step-by-step planning across numerous data sources and tools.

Performance Insights and Use Cases

While the Nova Premier delivers a significant capacity with its one million token context window, equivalent to analyzing roughly three-quarters of a million words at once, it does not outpace some leading competitors in every area. In coding benchmarks and evaluations of advanced math and science knowledge, Amazon’s new model trails behind rivals like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro.

Amazon highlights that Nova Premier sets itself apart by excelling in knowledge retrieval and analysis of visual data, as reflected in the company’s own benchmark results. Premier has performed well on tests such as SimpleQA and MMMU, which emphasize these strengths.

Nova Premier’s pricing structure within Bedrock mirrors that of competing models, with input token pricing set at two dollars and fifty cents per million tokens and output costing twelve dollars and fifty cents per million tokens generated. For comparison, Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro charges a similar rate for input but is slightly higher for output tokens.

Unlike some newer AI offerings from companies like OpenAI or DeepSeek, Nova Premier is not classified as a reasoning model. It does not spend extra processing cycles to reconsider or verify its answers, which sets it apart from models built explicitly for critical reasoning tasks.

Amazon aims to position Premier as a tool for “teaching” more compact models through a technique called distillation, transferring the Premier’s knowledge and capabilities into lighter, faster packages for specific tasks. This aligns with Amazon’s broader push to integrate AI at the core of its business growth and innovation strategies.

Company leadership has underscored the importance of generative AI to Amazon’s expanding revenue streams, revealing development of hundreds of AI applications and emphasizing a significant increase in annual AI revenue. As Amazon continues its focus on artificial intelligence, Nova Premier is set to play a central role in that ongoing expansion.
