Anduril has confirmed the acquisition of Klas, a Dublin based company renowned for supplying durable edge computing solutions tailored for military and emergency service applications. While the details of the transaction remain confidential and it still awaits final approval, Anduril to Acquire Klas to Build the Future of Tactical Compute and Communications.
Klas brings its team of 150 specialists into the fold, expanding Anduril’s technological reach. Alongside the acquisition news, Anduril introduced a new offering named Menace T, a portable system designed to deliver fast, on site computing and network connectivity in harsh and remote settings, all in a package small enough for one person to carry and deploy within minutes. Unlike the typical bulky command infrastructure, Menace T can be transported in two standard airline carry on cases, redefining rapid response capabilities in the field.
Powering Next Generation Defense Tech
Klas has been an important supplier for Anduril even before the acquisition, with its Voyager product line serving as the backbone for Anduril’s Menace command center systems. These rugged Voyage units are already fully integrated with Anduril’s advanced Lattice software, which infuses artificial intelligence and sensor data to automate key tasks like object recognition.
Recently, Anduril assumed responsibility for the US military’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) contract, a project originally started by Microsoft in 2018 involving advanced, battlefield ready VR headsets for troops. The Lattice platform now equips these IVAS devices, allowing the headsets to leverage computer vision algorithms for object tracking and classification in real-time.
Menace T offers unique operational advantages to IVAS by serving as a reliable computing and connectivity hub that addresses longstanding challenges with performing complex on-device processing in difficult environments. The system’s edge computing abilities ensure that soldiers can both transmit and receive mission critical data, as well as coordinate autonomous weapon systems during operations. According to Anduril executives, Klas has previously supplied relevant hardware for IVAS and will continue to play a vital role in supporting and advancing this advanced wearable technology.
Anduril sees broader opportunity for Klas’s technology portfolio, stretching far beyond defense and national security. Potential future applications for rugged edge computing include sectors such as automotive, industrial automation, and environmental monitoring, where robust real time processing is essential but often out of reach.
The company remains open to exploring these commercial pathways once it has addressed military and law enforcement needs. In the meantime, Anduril plans to leverage the Klas acquisition and new Menace T suite to deliver powerful and adaptable solutions to customers seeking advanced edge computing at the tactical frontline.
