Apple is raising the bar yet again, promising real time translation in everyday conversations across its most popular platforms.
At its annual developer event, the company unveiled a translation feature that brings conversations to life in new ways. Whether you are sending a quick text, video chatting on FaceTime, or catching up with someone on the Phone app, Live Translation can instantly convert your words into another language as you speak.
Privacy is a top priority with this tech; Apple assured users that all translations will process directly on devices. Messages will be translated as you type or as someone responds, with recipients getting replies in their preferred languages.
FaceTime chats are about to get a huge boost too. Now, captions can appear in real time, allowing people who speak different languages to connect more naturally. Even regular phone calls can now include a spoken translation, so while one person speaks, the other hears a translation without missing a beat.
Developers have not been left behind either. Apple is making it straightforward for third party apps to use the same live translation abilities with a new programming tool. That means more communication apps could soon include this real time language feature.
Spotlight and Tahoe Redefine the Mac Experience
The software update for Mac computers, known as attention grabbing visual changes, includes some attention grabbing visual changes. The new look introduces “Liquid Glass,” a modern style that brings a shiny, transparent finish to more parts of the interface. Now, users can personalize their folders with almost any color, including pink.
This update is more than just a design refresh. It creates a tighter bond between Mac and iPhone, allowing Mac users to see live activity updates straight from their phones. You might see your food delivery tracking right on your computer’s lock screen, for instance.
Another highly requested feature is finally coming; a true Phone app for the Mac. It works much like its iPhone counterpart, with support for call screening and hold assist. And yes, live translation will be available there too.
Spotlight, the Mac’s built in search, is getting smarter as well. With the help of Apple’s artificial intelligence, it will recommend actions based on what you are doing. You can even send emails from Spotlight without ever opening your mail program. Quick keys let you create shortcuts, so sending a message or adding a reminder is faster than ever.
Big changes for the Messages app are on the way, including support for custom backgrounds, polls, and even Genmoji, Apple’s AI powered emojis. The FaceTime landing page has also been refreshed, and the Journal app is finally making the leap to Mac.
MacOS Tahoe will arrive for all users this fall, but those eager to try the new features will be able to join a public test next month. Developers already have access to early versions starting today.
