Freepik has introduced a new artificial intelligence image model named F Lite, designed and trained using only commercially licensed and appropriate images. The company partnered with an AI technology firm to develop this model, utilizing powerful Nvidia GPUs to train it over several weeks. This launch places Freepik among a select group of companies offering generative AI tools built solely on licensed content. The use of copyrighted material in AI training remains a contentious issue, fueling ongoing legal disputes in the tech industry.
F Lite incorporates around 10 billion parameters and focuses on safe and reliable output. Two distinct versions are now available, one prioritizing faithful image creation and the other emphasizing unique textures and richer visual compositions.
Advanced AI with Legal Compliance
Freepik’s proprietary dataset of about 80 million images was used exclusively for training both versions of F Lite. The standard edition is tailored for accuracy while the texture edition provides greater creative variance at the cost of more occasional errors.
Unlike offerings from major competitors in the field, AI image generator does not claim F Lite consistently outperforms other leading models. Instead, the objective is to make it accessible for developers who wish to experiment with or enhance AI-driven image generation.
Running F Lite requires a high-end graphics processor with large memory capacity to support its intensive computing requirements. Companies like Adobe, Getty Images, and others are also investing in new media generation models centered on licensed material. Should legal questions about AI artworks resolve in favor of developers, this approach could define the future landscape of creative AI technology.
