Meta’s Llama AI models continue to see remarkable growth as downloads have now surged past the 1.2 billion mark. In March, the company shared that the family of models achieved 1 billion downloads, marking a rapid increase from the 650 million recorded just a few months prior.
At the newly launched LlamaCon developer conference, Meta Llama‘s chief product officer Chris Cox shared these latest statistics from the keynote stage. Cox also mentioned that thousands of developers are producing tens of thousands of derived models, which are being downloaded hundreds of thousands of times each month.
Llama Ecosystem Expands Rapidly
Meta’s AI assistant, Meta AI, which is built on the Llama model technology, has now reached an estimated one billion users worldwide. This growth reflects both developer engagement and user adoption, highlighting how central Llama has become in the AI landscape.
Despite the momentum, Meta faces stiff rivalry from other tech companies advancing their own generative AI models. Alibaba Qwen3, for instance, recently launched the Qwen3 model family, which has demonstrated impressive results on key AI benchmarks.
Meta’s determination to maintain its lead is evident through its energetic developer outreach and swift innovation. The expanding Llama ecosystem stands as both a measure of current success and a sign of fierce ongoing competition in the artificial intelligence sector.
