Meta is reorganizing its artificial intelligence workforce into two separate groups, moving personnel into either an AI products team or a group dedicated to AGI Foundations. The shift reportedly does not involve layoffs for current staff.
The AI products group will concentrate on tools and features that users interact with directly, such as the intelligent functions found within Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. In addition, this team is responsible for the company’s latest AI app designed as an independent product.
Meta Eyes Competitive Edge in AI Race
The newly formed AGI Foundations division will aim its efforts at broader advancements, including refining the company’s Llama models. This group will take on the company’s most ambitious long-term technology goals.
Meta faces mounting competition as other companies, including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, accelerate progress in the artificial intelligence sector. In response, Meta has rolled out initiatives like the Llama for Startups program, which supports new companies in harnessing its generative AI tools.
Much of what Meta showcased at its recent LlamaCon event was centered around positioning itself as a rival to industry leaders like OpenAI. The company seems determined to maintain its position among the top contenders in artificial intelligence innovation, as highlighted in Meta AI workforce reorganization.
