Reed Hastings, best known as one of the people who created Netflix, has accepted a seat on the board at Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company said Wednesday.
With this move, Reed Hastings appointed to Anthropic’s board of directors, Anthropic adds a leader familiar with scaling technology companies to its ranks, positioning itself to draw upon Hastings’ board experience at firms like Netflix, Microsoft, Meta, and Bloomberg.
Hastings is stepping in as one of the most prominent names overseeing Anthropic’s direction at a time when it is rising fast as a competitor to OpenAI.
Independent Oversight for Anthropic’s Mission
Anthropic made it clear that this new position was not filled through a traditional corporate appointment but was instead handed down by the Anthropic’s Long Term Benefit Trust, a unique governing group designed to operate independently from the company’s finances.
This trust has wide control at the top of Anthropic, granting it power to choose or dismiss board members, all with a stated focus on steering artificial intelligence development toward broad, positive outcomes for people everywhere.
Joining Hastings on Anthropic’s board are co-founders Dario and Daniela Amodei, investor Yasmin Razavi, and Jay Kreps, who serves as chief executive at Confluent.
