Samsung is making moves that could reshape how its users search and interact with their phones.
Behind closed doors, the electronics heavyweight is reportedly in talks to invest in the artificial intelligence search company Perplexity. If the deal takes shape, Samsung phones could soon come with Perplexity’s artificial intelligence-driven app and assistant already on board, right out of the box.
Sources close to the discussions reveal that Samsung would not just be a major backer in Perplexity’s newest funding round. The deal could make Perplexity’s search features available in the default browser and also see Samsung weaving the start-up’s artificial intelligence technology into its own digital helper, Bixby.
The companies are also exploring wider integration, with plans that may be revealed before the year wraps up. Both Samsung and Perplexity have so far declined to comment on the ongoing talks.
Big Money and the AI Race
Perplexity is currently working through a fundraising effort that could gather five hundred million dollars and a potential valuation soaring to fourteen billion dollars.
Other major names in the tech world have also set their sights on Perplexity. Word around the industry suggests Apple has considered putting Perplexity in the running as a new search engine option inside Safari. Earlier this spring, Motorola struck a deal of its own to give its devices a taste of Perplexity’s artificial intelligence features.
Samsung, facing competition from every direction, appears keen to stay ahead by baking advanced artificial intelligence directly into its products and services. Bringing Perplexity’s advanced search and assistant abilities onto Samsung phones could mark a leap toward smarter, more responsive devices.
