Shopify recently introduced a range of advanced artificial intelligence tools to strengthen how businesses connect with their online customers. With these features, merchants gain access to an intuitive store builder that can generate an e commerce site based solely on a single descriptive prompt, plus a new element generator for producing promotional graphics easily.

The company has enhanced its AI assistant, Sidekick, providing it with voice chat and screen sharing so that users can get real time guidance directly in the app. These developments were highlighted at the company’s semiannual Editions event, where the latest platform improvements are traditionally revealed to the public.

Now, a merchant can jumpstart their shop by simply describing their brand, such as “stylish athleisure and tennis equipment” and watch as Shopify creates an initial version of the online store. Merchants keep complete control, using the editor for further customization after the automated setup finishes.

Intuitive Theme Customization

A newly released Horizon theme brings even more flexibility, equipped with built in artificial intelligence to help shape the visual design of e commerce sites. It marks the first appearance of Theme Blocks, modular components that allow store owners to change layouts and functions without any programming.

Shopify’s AI will even generate unique banners or animated elements from descriptions, producing the necessary code in the background so users never have to touch technical details. This update means that creative customization is now more approachable for entrepreneurs who want attractive digital storefronts but lack experience in web development.

Elsewhere, the Sidekick assistant now features voice interaction and responds audibly to merchant questions, from complicated tasks like tariff advice to simple guidance on settings. Merchants can even share their screens with Sidekick to walk step by step through various features.

The assistant is now available on the Shopify mobile app, extending support to users wherever they are working. Interest in Sidekick appears strong, with monthly usage rates doubling in the first few months of 2025.

The company’s focus on artificial intelligence aligns with recent leadership statements about streamlining operations. AI commerce tools can help merchants innovate, save time, and elevate the e commerce experience for shoppers all over the world.
