Firefox users can soon expect a new way to search right where they are most comfortable.
Mozilla has revealed that its AI search partner AI search partner Perplexity will be made available to Firefox users worldwide, following strong positive feedback from initial trials in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany.
Unlike some competitors rushing to design entirely new browsers built around AI, Firefox is opting to enhance the existing experience. The new integration lets users switch their default search to Perplexity within the browser settings or through the unified address bar.
This update means users can interact with a conversational search engine that returns easy-to-read answers complete with citations, rather than the usual long list of links. The visual difference stands out, especially for those interested in quick, sourced information.
New AI Search Arrives for Firefox Fans
Mozilla’s decision seems guided by customer choice. According to company statements, Perplexity distinguished itself partly because it promises not to sell or share personal data, an assurance that may reassure privacy-minded Firefox fans.
Firefox’s larger plan is much more than just a single feature addition. If this rollout continues smoothly, Mozilla has stated it will consider adding even more AI-based answer engines in the future.
While desktop users can begin trying Perplexity right away, mobile support will roll out later this year. The search switch will be accessible through the same unified toolbar that most are already familiar with.
Beyond embracing smarter search tools, Mozilla also confirmed that browser profiles are now available to everyone after months of phased testing. This advantage means users can create separate experiences depending on whether they are working, studying, or just browsing for fun.
As Firefox keeps finding ways to modernize its offering, users who currently rely on Google as their primary search engine will soon gain access to visual search using Google Lens, a feature Mozilla is still evaluating.
Speaking about the project, a Mozilla spokesperson said, “We’re excited to offer people more choice in how they search online.”
Mozilla’s refreshingly open approach lets people choose AI-powered options like Perplexity without locking them into a different system entirely. As the web moves rapidly toward more interactive search experiences, Firefox users will have a say in how much AI shapes their daily journey online.
