  • Trump plans orders on data centers, tech exports, and removing political bias from US government AI.
  • US will push domestic AI products worldwide and update rules to support secure, neutral tech.
  • Upcoming AI Action Plan aims for transparency, better infrastructure, and leadership against China.

A wave of new executive directives on artificial intelligence is poised to reshape how the United States approaches emerging technology.

President Donald Trump intends to sign three focused orders tied to artificial intelligence before the official rollout of his administration’s comprehensive AI Action Plan, expected later this week.

Each executive order zooms in on a core policy: modernizing infrastructure for AI, boosting US exports in tech, and keeping government-used AI free of bias or partisan leanings.

People acquainted with the administration’s plans say Trump is likely to ink these actions just before an event that will reveal the larger AI policy blueprint.

Infrastructure, Exports, and AI Neutrality

One directive will tackle the energy and permitting hurdles around building and operating data centers for AI, calling on the Department of Energy to seek proposals for new data center projects on its properties.

Another order turns attention to the global stage, instructing agencies to push US-developed AI products into international markets, working closely with the US International Development Finance Corporation and Export Import Bank.

A third measure will address concerns over potential ideological slant in the large language models the government uses, with an eye toward removing what officials describe as “woke AI.” Sources confirm that David Sacks and Sriram Krishnan are leading the charge on this effort from within the White House AI policy team.

Alongside these actions, the soon-to-be-unveiled AI Action Plan will chart an ambitious course for US leadership in artificial intelligence. It’s set to encourage wider AI adoption across the government, especially the Defense Department, and create a national center within the Department of Homeland Security for monitoring cybersecurity threats tied to AI.

The Department of Homeland Security will also be asked to produce new, AI-specific cybersecurity rules for businesses and keep these guidelines up to date.

Notably, the National Institute of Standards and Technology must revise its AI Risk Management Framework from 2023, stripping out earlier references to diversity, equity, misinformation, and climate change as directed by new policy outlines.

The initiative seeks to boost transparency through more open access to AI development tools and models, as well as scale up domestic data infrastructure to meet the surging computational demands of advanced AI.

There’s a strong education component, too, from expanding academic programs for younger students to advanced technical training for college-level learners.

Commerce officials are readying to champion a full suite of American AI hardware and software products beyond US borders, promoting applications with built-in security features.

Officials are especially keen to counter China’s growing influence in shaping technology standards globally, warning that unchecked rival efforts could tilt the playing field toward more restrictive systems.

Victoria LaCivita, spokeswoman for the White House Office of Science and Technology, said, “The [AI Action Plan] will deliver a strong, specific and actionable federal policy roadmap that goes beyond the details reported here and we look forward to releasing it soon.” For additional coverage of recent policy moves, see recent public input on AI policy.
